Approximately 1300 years back Mahendra Pallava was ruling in Kanchi.He was very generous and noble. His kingdom spaned between Pandya Kingdom in the south to river Godavari in the north. On those days Kanchi had institutions for learning Sanskrit, Tamil Literature,Jainisim and Buddhism. A young man,Paranjyothi came to Kanchi for learning Tamil Literature and arts.On the way he met a Buddhist monk , Naganandi.Through him he entered into Kanchi's fort in the late evening. He comes to know about the abrupt end of the first dance performance of Sivagami, daughter of a great sculptor Aayanar,due to the news reached here of the proceeding army of Chalukya King Pulakesin.

Aayanar and Sivagami comes in a palanquin. At that time an elephant came running ferociously towards them. Paranjyothi throws his sharp cornered stick towards it and runs away. Elephant starts running after Paranjyothi. It was then trapped by other elephants.Mahendra Pallava & Narsimha Pallava comes there and enquires about them.Narsimha takes that weapon. After wandering in the streets cops imprison Paranjyothi. On that night Naganandi saves him and makes him to go out of Kanchi's fort by a secret way. But while escaping he meets both Mahendra Pallava & Narsimha Pallava. They were in disguise. This astonishes Paranjyothi when he comes to know about them.

Paranjyothi had brought letters to Thirunavukarsu (a tamil poet) and Aayanar. Since Thirunavukarsu was not in Kanchi he goes with Naganandi to meet Aayanar who lives in a forest with his only daughter and a widowed sister. He lives in the forest to do his statues peacefully. Naganandi says Paranjyothi can be sent to north upto Nagarjuna hill to get the secret of how to paint everlasting pictures like what is in Ajanta caves. At that time Mahendra Pallava and Narsimha Pallava comes there to meet Aayanar.So, Naganandi and Paranjyothi hides themselves behind a Buddha statue.

Mahendra Pallava asks Narsimha not to come out of Kanchi's fort, for his safety. Lot of food grains were carried inside the fort since they expected besiege. People started moving towards south. Many villages were evacuated. Jains in particular moved towards Pandya Kingdom in the south. Mahendra Pallava gives full control to Narsimha and moves towards north with a small army to stop Pulakesin.

Based on Naganandi's idea Aayanar sends Paranjyothi to north to find out the secret of everlasting pictures drawn in Ajanta.
Paranjyothi carries message given by Naganandi.On the way he meets a very bold man Vajrabahoo(Mahendra Pallava in disguise). He started admiring Vajrabahoo. In the night they stayed together. Vajrabahoo changes the message. The letter given by Naganandi had asked Pulakesin to come and attack Kanchi immediately.

Paranjyothi was mistaken and brought for trial before Pulakesin.Vajrabahoo meets Pulakesin and saves Paranjyothi.Vajrabahoo also sees Pulakesin's force for estimation.While returning Vajrabahoo mentions about his son.Paranjyothi says that he wants to join Pallava army and particularly wishes to have the responsibility to strengthen the fort. He expressed his great regard for Mahendra Pallava.

In the meanwhile Sivagami dances to a song by Thirunavukarasu infront of Narsimha, Aayanar,Thirunavukarasu and his students. It was a song written in praise of Shiva. But she dances thinking of Narsimha and faints. Narsimha leaves since he was told that messengers from Madurai have come to meet him. Since Sivagami was aware of the proposed alliance for him for the Pandya Princess she wanted to know the current information about it. At that time, Thirunavukarasu, a great poet and a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva says to Aayanar that he expects some danger to Sivagami. This upsets Aayanar. Then both of them went Kamali's house in Kannan's chariot.(Kannan- Narsimha's charioteer and Kamali's husband). Though Kannan was asked the information came just now from the Pandya Kingdom he does not reveal anything.
